Let me start off by saying this, Colorado is one of my favorite places in the world. I can never spend enough time there. Therefore, I love being in Denver. Denver is a large city that has everything you can ever ask for. It also comes with great weather, and to top it off, it’s only a couple hours from all the winter sports you could dream of. Will you be in the area but not necessarily in Denver? Read about Colorado Springs here and it’s airport here.
Also, where else can you run into a lit up airliner??
Pho 888 is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Aurora. As the name implies, their serve pho soup, but they have many dishes. I had the large steak pho and a boba tea. I barely finished my meal. The pho was incredible, the boba tea was a little too sweet for my taste, but I can see why so many people would enjoy it. Warning, this place is busy all of the time, so be prepared to wait. It also looks like a dive, and it is, but you can get great Vietnamese food for under $10 a meal.
Bean Tree Coffee is a local coffee place in Aurora. It’s open every day from 6am to 10pm with plenty of parking. It also has free WIFI and good coffee. I admit it, I love places like this. Whenever I need to get some work done I struggle with wanting to stay in my hotel and play it safe. But why should I suffer? Besides, experiencing new places opens my mind up and makes me more creative (I think??). I took a chance on this little place. I ordered an Americano and a flan. The Americano was really good. The flan was prepackaged so it was ok. Came in under $5.
As the name implies, Cafe Steep specializes in teas. They have an enormous variety of them. However, I specialize in coffee. Because of this I was a little apprehensive about even going to this place. They’re also in downtown Denver, which means that parking can be difficult to find. I arrived there and managed to find (free) parking right away, walked right in, ordered, and easily found a spot to sit. Did I mention the homemade pop tarts and lattes? I was working there for a while so I started off with my usual, the double espresso, but quickly gave it and got a pop tart and a latte. I don’t usually drink lattes but what else goes with a pop tart? It’s got a cool vibe, free WIFI, and really friendly employees. It also has vegan snacks if you’re into that. Oh, but you’re paleo, right? Fear not, they have frittatas. Their only downside, they close at 7pm on the weekends and 8pm during the week.
Tacos y Salsas is a small, ghetto looking Mexican place near downtown Denver. Here’s the thing though, whenever you find a place like this, you have to pay close attention to the details and ask yourself a series of questions.
Has anyone died here? Not that I can tell.
Can I safely park here? Possibly.
Do Mexican patrons outnumber everyone else by at least 3 to 1? Definitely.
Is it inexpensive? Absolutely.
Great food, as you can see from the picture. 5 tacos will run you about $10 and they’re totally worth it. This is a family place, so you’re (probably) safe. Also, don’t mind all the paintings of virgin Mary everywhere. My only regret is not getting the tres leches, it looked incredible, but I had to abstain!
