The human brain is the most mysterious organ that humans have. It’s limits, potential, and functions are mostly unknown. One thing that doctors do know is that the brain reroutes information around damaged cells. When there is an unusable cell, the human brain uses an interconnected highway like system to reroute necessary traffic around the damaged cell.
In the same way, information will be rerouted around a damaged team member. It doesn’t matter where you work or what you do, the passage of communication needs to be a healthy, viable one. Constructive criticism should be expected and cherished, but negativity and a bad attitude will cause people to work around you rather than with you.
Are you a damaged unit?
If you are, there are three things you can do right now.
Immediately stop what you’re doing that is damaging your team. If you’re not sure what it is then have an open and honest conversation with your boss and with your colleagues.
Acknowledge that you’ve screwed up.
It’s time to restart. Come up with a plan to restart working with your team in a productive and healthy way. The damage has been done, but doing great work in a friendly way right now will make others forget about your previous misgivings!
